Gene Weingarten is a humor columnist for the Washington _Post_ (and
writes occasional feature-length serious--and moving--columns, too). He
is IMO one of the most brilliant humor columnists around, but a bit full
of himself (though i suspect that that's just part of his shtick).
FWIW, he was also Dave Barry's editor at the Miami _Herald_ for several
years, back before the _Herald_ jettisoned much of its best talent.
