a wild "sighting":

At our synagogue, the rabbi was talking about what could be eaten for Passover.  Along the line, he said that in the shtetls of Eastern Europe, they survived on potatoes.  Someone asked, "What did they eat before potatoes were discovered?" and someone else immediately replied, "Stone soup."
