"As far as . . ."

I'm seeing and hearing "as far as" without the concluding "goes" very
often these days; in fact, I rarely hear the "goes" anymore. It has
taken over from "as for" or "as to" and is now being used without
real internal analysis, I think -- though it would be interesting to
see if we could do a little psycholinguistic experiment to see
whethere there is a "goes" trace for at least some speakers in the
expected position.
