"certain" inThe First Noel

I think "certain" is in the line of the carol simply to make it scan.



Thus it would be the adjective, though in a weird use and place, to be sure,
to make the line fit the meter/music.



It's not unusual (pace Tom Jones, the singer) for lyrics to be grammatically
weird or syntactically off-beat for the sake of the beat.  Examples abound;
the subject for another e-thread?
