Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my post that started this thread.  The Yale
Book of Quotations traces "take me to your leader" to a New Yorker cartoon
by Alex Graham, 21 Mar. 1953, in which two extraterrestrials, with a
flying saucer parked in the field behind them, say to a horse: "Kindly
take us to your President!"
