An expert at snippets, on another list, says probably not, if the
book provides only snippet view.  Unless there is a running head at
the top of the page that contains the year.  One might try using some
phrase from the top of successive snippets, in the hope one can crawl
up the page.  (His idea, not mine!)

I can't answer the second question ...
