"IF YOU'RE NOT BROWN, YOU'RE NOT DOWN"
I just heard this said about San Antonio (meaning that you must be Mexican
to live there). I couldn't find it on the web. Does anyone have any evidence?

"HAMBURGER" AND YALE DAILY NEWS
I wrote a letter to the editor to the Yale Daily News. I said that (contrary
to their story) it's a documented fact that New Haven's Louis' Lunch did not
invent the "hamburger." My letter was not published. I wrote directly to the
editor in chief of the Yale Daily News, also, telling her that I spent ten
years of my life telling people that Yale's Kennel Club should get credit for
"hot dog," and that the story has never made the Yale Daily News. I got no
reply. E-mails cost so much these days.

NEWS 8 AUSTIN'S WEB SIGHTINGS
Yeah, I'm still not mentioned in News 8 Austin's web sightings. They mention
Word Origins, Word Detective, but they just can't mention a site devoted to
Texas words. I recommended Grant Barrett's site, but that wasn't selected,
either.

Today's site is "Austin Postcard." It's a good website--but it made Web
Sightings one year ago! Sites no longer on the web will probably be mentioned
before mine.

These historic postcards are blasts from the past. Check out Congress
Avenue, back when traffic would have included a horse-drawn carriage and a
pictorial history of Hyde Park, back when traffic there was eased by a trolley
rolling through the neighborhood.
