I have nothing beyond what's in HDAS.

  John's jazz article is splendid, though someone is sure to "correct" it with the NYC whorehouse theory, which supports the "jasmine" theory, which supports in turn the
  "sex" theory, all of which support the "jism/ jasm" theory.

Here is one from 1905 for starters. In this piece I think "jasm"
approximates "charisma", as it arguably does in other citations also.
