*Very* slight antedating, since Fred previously posted this one:

1896 _Milwaukee Sentinel_ 16 Aug. 15 (19th Century U.S. Periodicals)  For
the vaudeville attractions six clever artists have been secured, headed by
Ben R. Harney, the illustrator of real negro rag-time music.
