Found in a 1963 cookbook The American Family Cookbook by Lily Wallace (along with a recipe that involves cleaning a possum"Do not remove head or tail."
which I will not burden you with)--

Peptonized Milk
1 tube peptonizing powder
1 pint milk
Dissolve powder in 1/2 cup cold water. Add milk. Mix well. Chill.

I am guessing it is something people used to drink?

Google has this entry for peptonization. It is a scanned manual from 1889 with other weird substances involving peptonization--for example, the classic Meat Enema with Pepsin. Apparently they used to give children a better recipe involving brandy and raw egg yolks also.
