1955 Emily Kimbrough _So Near and Yet So Far_ [N.Y.: Harper] 235: When drinks were served before dinner, we were asked if we would care to have moose milk, a specialty of the house. I declined but was interested to learn it is made with rum, brandy [etc.].
1948 William Brinkley _Quicksand_ [N.Y,: Dutton] 183: Something Doc had said once after a couple of slugs of moose milk.
[1908 Cy Warman _Weiga of Temagami and Other Indian Tales_ [Toronto: McLeod & Allen] 166: Uh, he exclaimed, grasping the stem of a champagne glass in his big brown fist, that liquor's finer'n moose's milk. ]
As one might suspect, the term is most common in Alaska and Canada, but several exx. are from the U.S. Navy.
