New York City has passed a resolution to encourage residents to avoid
using the n-word. The City apparently feels that it is not
appropriately used under any circumstances (not even among blacks).
One of the arguments put forward was that the young people using the
word (having heard it in rap and other popular culture "venues")
don't realize the history of its offensiveness.
