As for "having ENIAC and EDVAC to help him", John von Neumann's talent for doing computations in his head was already legendary long before ENIAC or EDVAC became operational (1946 and 1948 respectively).  Von Neumann helped with the ENIAC project and was the man who came up with the overall design of EDVAC (based, of course, on the Turing Machine.  Turing also designed the ACE computer, started the same time as EDVAC although not ready for a couple of years after EDVAC.  Turing was the true originator of the electronic digital computer, which he invented for the purpose of proving computers do not work).

OT: to the best of my recollection, the $64,000 Question was never rigged, although it died along with its rigged competitors.

OT: I am familiar with the term "bollard", but strictly in a nautical setting.  A bollard is one of those poles around a dock that you tie your painter to.
