I think this is probably a respectable Norwegian version:

"Trip trap" is onomatopoeic, I guess, but also presumably reflects the verb
"trippe" -- about like its English cognate "trip" = "move with short light
steps" or so ("Hvem er det, som tripper paa min bro?"). Of course I am
thoroughly ignorant of Norwegian and defer to any expert or even
sort-of-expert.
