"Make due": eggcorn?

I'm pretty sure this has come up before, but my temperamental browser
discourages me from going to the archives.

It might only be an artefact of the process of getting from the thought to
the published book, but this phrase (living in Manhattan: the
near-impossibility of being able) "to make due on $10,000 a year"occurs.
