Wikipedia's "Big Apple" entry is a mess, but at least it's been a
constant mess for the past two months--something of a Wikipedia
record. The "French whore" theory hasn't been brought up for some
time. I checked it again; who knows, maybe someone added "Big Onion"
nonsense.
...
The first "Big Apple" line used to read:
...
>>The "Big Apple" is a nickname or moniker for New York City used by
New Yorkers. (Not others?--B.P.) Its popularity since the 1970s is due
to a promotional campaign by the New York Convention and Visitor's
(sic) Bureau.

The new, improved-just-yesterday first "Big Apple" line now reads:
...
>>The "Big Apple" is a nickname or moniker for New York City used by
New Yorkers. Its popularity since the 1970s is due to a promotional
campaign by the New York Convention and toss pot house.
...
"Toss pot"--according to the Urban Dictionary--means "masturbation."
...
Wikipedia, where any seven-year-old can vandalize any entry at any
time. Ain't Wikipedia great?
