I'm deeply saddened to say that Audrey Duckert, who worked with Fred
Cassidy on the Wisconsin English Language Survey and the beginnings of
DARE, and who continued as an adjunct editor for DARE, died this
afternoon in Hadley Massachusetts. Audrey had worked on dialect entries
at Merriam-Webster, Inc., and she had also provided an American
perspective for the OED by reading entries in the Second Supplement. She
taught at the University of Massachusetts from 1959 until her retirement
a few years ago.
