[Wilson Gray]

Isn't it the case that the Russo-Cyrillic letter transliterated as
"shch" [SC] is actually pronounced as "shhh" [S:]? At least, that's
the way that it was taught at the byvshaia Armeiskaia Shkola iazykov,
fifty years ago. Darya?
