Positive anymore in upper midwest?

I was listening to a hockey call-in show on XM radio on the way in to
work this morning. A caller who identified himself as being from
Minnesota (and sounded like it) said:

"you might as well have them wear skirts and figure skates anymore"

(After discussing the merits of his point, which made total sense in
context, the hosts did criticize the stereotypical reference to skirts
and figure skates.)
