Capitalizing "Internet" and "Web" has long been a pet peeve of mine,
though I do so since I have to follow accepted standards for business.
As Wikipedia points out (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_capitalization_conventions
), items such as "the sky" and "the power grid" are not capitalized.
Wikipedia also says that a number of anglophonic publications mainly
outside of North America have switched to "internet".
Chicago says "Web site" for formal writing and that "website" is
recommendable for informal/friendly writing: http://tinyurl.com/ypfmm.
On April 16, 2008, Wired published an article announcing they will no
longer capitalize internet, net and web: http://www.wired.com/culture/lifestyle/news/2004/08/64596
