1847 _Southern Patriot_ (Charleston, S.C.) (June 4) 2: He was pretty busy playing high, low -- whistle Jack -- loo, &c., &c., seated upon an old trunk.

  1860 _N.Y. Herald_ (March 21) 2: Have sometimes played with the children at cards in my father's house; played "whistle jack."
