"jeffing" for drinks

That was the second typing mistake in that post.  In the first, I typed that the quad was a piece of black type; I meant to write "blank"-- there's nothing on it that touches the paper, so it leaves no mark, but creates a space.

Type setting was a compulsory course for boys in my high school -- I admit to being an old codger, but I would have to be a danged old codger to have been in high school when setting type by hand was a eligible future occupation -- but type setting was compulsory, anyway.  Nonetheless, I forget how wide an em quad was -- I suppose it was square in section, rather that rectangular , and when thrown there would be 3 losing possibilities and just one winning.

Girls were compelled to learn how to bake cookies.
