Those who don't receive the journal NAMES should note the recent issue, a
festschrift for Edwin D. Lawson that includes the excellent and elegant article
"Origin of the Gang Name 'Crips,'" by those familiar and estimable
etymologists  Wilson Gray and Gerald Cohen. The issue includes some 20 articles, and all
 I've sampled so far have proven well worth the reading.
