Also FWIW, prior to my redundancy to the student body in Ann Arbor (1965),
students querying each other about transportation asked if one had "a car or
a machine", the latter being a motorcycle.

FWIW, "machine", or something that sounds like it, is the Persian
word I know for car/automobile...

(Not sure how off-topic that is. At least it's a similar sense of the
word "machine".)
