Perhaps. The earliest citation in the OED is from not too far away:
"1946 Oshkosh (Wisconsin) Daily Northwestern 12 Mar. 23/8 The onrush
of spring was evident at Eau Claire State College Wednesday night
when male students, estimated up to 200, staged a *panty raid at
Putnam Hall, a women's dormitory."
