"important" as noun

This is most likely a typo in an email message I received, but I hope
it is not an emerging trend.  An inability to decide between "import"
and "importance"?

"As for author quirkiness, some authors cap an ordinary noun in the
hope of adding to its important or turn it into some kind of buzz word."
