It's a bit painful to see Fred's very valuable information to ads-l preceded by an apology.  Words and their antedatings are an integral part of the study of English, and their presentation here is imho very welcome.

movie (OED3 1911)

1909_Springfield Sunday Republican_ 1 Aug. 19 (America's Historical Newspapers)  The average child only goes to the "Movies" twice a month.
