A Sad State for Marriage

Slate, in this morning's news headlines summary, said
this about what's happening re same-sex marriage in CA,
where the state Supreme Court has agreed to review legal
challenges to Prop 8:
"The court's move suggests that it wants to resolve all issues relating to
marriage between two people of the same sex in one ruling. The court refused
to allow the marriages to continue until a decision has been made . . . "

One _could_ read this as the court is suspending all _states_ of marriage
between same-sex couples until issues relative to the _act_ of marriage are
resolved.
Had the writer said '. . . allow the marrying to continue . . ." this
article would have been clearer than is the greater issue.
