I was more interested in the link to his piece on New Orleans speech.
Specifically, the partial explanation of why some variants share
features with the dialects of Boston and NYC. (And Baltimore, I
understand.)
But Irish immigration certainly doesn't explain why these dialects are
nonrhotic.
