Did my question about the origin of "mobcap" ever run?  I dont'  remember 
seeing it, nor getting any answers.
 
Basically, I always thot it was a slurring of "mop cap," which makes sense,  
given that it holds your hair out of your face and off your neck, a good idea  
when wielding a mop..  The dictionary says it comes from "maid's cap,"  which 
really doesn't.  Make sense, that is.
