I think they more precisely have to do with where one's loyalties lie.  Sistahs believe that men will come and go throughout their lives, but sistahs (sister friends) will always be there through the good times as well as the bad times.

It means that, for men (even heterosexual men), the company of other men is
preferred--or is to be preferred--to the company of women. The conterpart saying
is "Sisters before misters" or, more commonly, "Chicks before
dicks."
