Sorry -- I didn't mean to post to the whole group about Sam's
antedating of pastrami.  "Shrouded in mystery" is undoubtedly too
strong a phrase for the discussion concerning its etymology --
though I seem to recall that there were some at least
minor differences of opinion about it.
