This may or may not be relevant:

Sometime before fall 1965 on the record "Peter, Paul, and Mary in Concert" there was a song "Rock my soul in the bosom of Abraham".

re "Spinspotters" (who presumably conduct their business in bowling alleys):

"bombs fall..." does not bother me if *somewhere* earlier in the article there were a reference to just which air force was dropping the bombs. From that point on, let the bombs fall as they may.

"bombs" was a poor example, as there have not yet been any confirmed reports of Taliban airplanes dropping bombs on US positions. A better example would be "Rockets were fired..."

Passive voice per se is not the problem, e.g. "n more rockets were fired by Hezbollah at...". On the other hand, active voice does not solve the problem. "US bombers blast Taliban positions" (an actual headline from 2001) contains three questionable assumptions, which are left as an exercise for the reader to spot.
