postvocalic /l/ intrusion

My little grandson, a studious kindergartner, likes to spell out certain words in sentences that he utters ("Can I give this bone to the d-o-g?").  Yesterday he was puttering in the yard, and he came to ask me, "Where do you keep the s-a-l"?  A follow-up query confirmed that he meant "saw."

(I have very adorable grandchildren.)
