Why Is Dick a nickname for Richard

Just to clarify: it's a real question. The issue of the name
Dick came up in a discussion about Baba Ram Dass, Richard Alpert.
He was always called Dick at Harvard. And as mentioned, my
dad was too. (1950's).

Incidentally, I've been on the list for nearly 10 years,
I just don't post very often. =)
