i was thinking that 'boost' might mean something like push aside, or
give the boot. something like 'shove'.

but there's the sense of "steal" (listed 3 in OED) that connects the
sense *possibly* to 'steal your thunder'. that meaning of 'boost'
wouldn't have occurred to me.
