A fine example of the resilience of false etymological beliefs (if we
need yet another!) can be found at

. I'm still getting used to how many people will hold steadfastly
that something is so because they think it should be so or they want
it to be so, even in the face of clear evidence... You'd think I'd be
inured to it by now.
