bounty = "splendid abundance"

My late maternal grandfather, a Methodist minister, used an
excruciatingly-long, pre-prandial prayer in which he thanked God for
His bounty, in Jesus' name, amen. Practicing Catholics have a
blessedly-brief, post-prandial in which we return thanks, O almighty
God, for Thy bounty.

All say, "How hard it is that we have to die"---a strange complaint to
come from the mouths of people who have had to live.
