Q: "Your review ... will shortly be behind me"

To whom is the following (or similar) attributed?

"Dear Sir, I am sitting in the smallest room in my house with your
review in front of me; it will shortly be behind me."

Some say it was Brahms, responding to a bad review by Hanslick, but I
think I've heard it attributed to a writer, and the Internet (as
usual) has several opinions.
