Congratulations on this impressive discovery. Elisabeth Sifton,
Niebuhr's daughter, will probably be pleased. Fred Shapiro said in the
Yale Alumni magazine, "It is entirely possible that Niebuhr composed
the prayer much earlier than he himself later remembered." I think
that is a fair statement and a prescient one.
