As I recall=2C "defecting" to Canada to avoid the draft for Nam was a prett=
y common term. No jesting. I remember when I get my draft notice and the =
war was going poorly. Friends and relatives were killed there. The countr=
y was protesting. The question was "should I go or defect to Canada?" If =
memory serves me right=2C "defecting" was the normal term=2C not just a pej=
orative.
