I was first warned against growing old back in 1957, when an elderly
gent took me aside and advised,

"Son, don't get old."

But damned if *I* was discouraged! I went ahead and *got* old. No one
tell *me* what to do! Here of late, though, I've come to feel that the
old guy and Matthew Arnold were correct.
