English is the lingua franca of the world. The IPA begun by the French with their journal published in French until 1970 is indicaative of the recognition. Time to look to English as the foundation for phonetics as well, making phonetics finally accessible to children as well as adults. That's the truespel plan. Time for phonetics in America that's actually useful for Americans. One would think that the American Dialect Society would be favorable to this idea.
