whatever = "you're welcome"

Last week's prophecy that "Whatever!" will replace both "You're welcome!"
and "No problem!" was startlingly supported this morning when my
granddaughter responded with "Whatever!" to her mother's "Thank you!"

Mom objected forcefully that "Whatever!" does not mean "You're welcome!" and
is rude to boot. Kid replied that it's more polite than "You're welcome!"
because it means "No problem! I can do the same thing any time!"

Stay tuned for equivalent use of "Whatev!"
