Proud flesh and proud door panels

I'm trying to ascertain the connection between proud flesh (raised
tissue associated with a healing wound), proud panel doors (panels
that protrude), and pride itself. At a guess, it may be the
association of being proud with being puffed up or swelled with pride,
but I have no confirmation. Any suggestions?
