Game Change

This book, receiving so much buzz, has on p. 3 "Obama was fiending for information in a way his aides had never seen before".

"Fiending" is not found in Dictionary.com., but doubletongued.org defines it as "craving, desiring, wanting, obsessing (over)"

I'm wondering if anyone else would have understood the sentence, and not thought it was some kind of typo or misprint.
