Indeed, Tom, IPA is a mess for beginners, daunting and never likely to
spread beyond a few folk.

I'm responding to your advert below for your "truespel".

I did go to the urls you gave, but found more adverting, and it reminded me
of the dedicated many who daily insist that I enlarge the size of my penis
or buy a Something telling me the secret of reducing the size of my belly.
 Hence, I smell a rat in your proposing truespel.

Consider this:  If truespel is as easy to use as you say it is, then why
don't you easily explain it to us?  If you show me how to learn it in five
minutes, I might become an advocate.  However, if you waste my time in
adverting, and if you insist that I must purchase a book or pamphlet or CD
in order to learn the system, then I've found the rat I'd smelled.

I look forward to your five-minute explanation of truespel.  Until then I'll
lazily continue to eschew IPA (I'm not a linguist), and use dictionaries'
simple, brief phonetic charts which serve my homely purposes.
