Now this is too funny. You are saying that it is a stretch to think that
Steele badmouthed Indians on purpose? Well, in fact that would be a stretch.
How silly. The point is: he (together with his ideological brethren) is
simply not concerned with whether or not he offended anyone and, if he did,
it doesn't matter, or may even increase his prestige. Jeeeez.

This strikes me as too clever by half.

No one else is out there scoring points by bad-mouthing the Native
Americans (at least no one that the head of a major party would want to
associate himself with), so it really doesn't seem likely that Steele is
trying to curry favor with the elusive anti-Micmac bloc with the
comment.
