Jesuits *are* remarkably tolerant. Indeed, they were once accused of
operating a special, gay "vice-province" - no pun - in NYC. When they
elected an American as Superior General, JPII came close to breaking
them up, for the second time in history. He blocked the election and
appointed a Sardinian - they have a really interesting language, which
is not to imply that there's any *unintersting* language, of course -
placeholder, till he had a chance to "get them told."
