another (unintentional) idiom blend

At least I assume it was unintentional.  A British commentator named
Mack (didn't get his whole name) on ESPN's World Cup Live yesterday
after the U.S.-England draw, discussing the importance of the
upcoming Algeria-Slovenia match in the same group:

"If someone goes out and wins tomorrow, they take the group by the
bull of the horns!"

(As it turns out, Slovenia did in fact win, and thus now has Group C
by the bull of the horns.)
